Six Months Old
Quin turned six months old on Saturday, and this is a pretty big time for him. He's reaching lots of milestones.
For starters, his two front bottom teeth are soooo close to coming out. The painful teething continues. I can't wait to see that cute toothy grin of his.
Next, as we had planned, he got to graduate to sleeping in his own room when he turned six months old. His first night was Friday night, and it was brutal for everyone. He woke up and needed attention several times in the night. Throw in the strange interference on our baby monitor from someones cordless phone (the aliens were talking to us if you ask me) and it was all around an awful night. The next night was much better, and Quin slept completely through the night, and even let us sleep in and catch up for the night before. Last night was this third night, and again he did admirably. No sweat. It's great having our room back, and the cats are in heaven being able to sleep with us again after six months in exile.
Today he got to go to the pediatrician again for his six month checkup. And of course, you know what that means: more shots. He got four more today including a flu shot which he's now old enough to get. Turns out he's growing like a weed length wise, but he's dropped down to the 25th percentile for weight from his previous 50th. There are a lot of factors for that and we're pretty sure we can get his weight back up. His next visit is at nine months and he doesn't get any shots, yippee!
Food. Now that Quin is eating solids and he's old enough, he gets to start exploring new big boy foods. He gets to start using a sippy cup and can start eating snacky foods like little fruit and vegetable puffs. The doctor was surprised to hear that he has good fine control over his fingers and can manipulate things with his fingers instead of just grabbing on with his whole hand. That means he'll soon be ready to start snacking on fun stuff like Cheerios.
Crawling status: Quin no longer screams when placed face down. In fact, he's now quite content on his stomach and spends the whole time playing with toys. He looks really funny as he usually has his head, chest, and legs off the ground, and he just kind of rolls around like a bowl with no flat spot on the bottom. He understands the concept of wanting to move closer to get a toy that's out of reach. He'll kick his legs and move his arms and try to move, but he hasn't quite figured that out yet. It will still be a while. He does however realize that he can get to a far away toy if it's connected to another toy. He'll grab the other toy and bring it closer so that he can get to the toy he wants.
More to come!
